Nature Invasion, Katesi Jacqueline

In Nature Invasion, a large root-like shape snakes its way along Spear House. As the effects of climate change become more present in our daily lives, Katesi’s woven 20 metre sculpture makes a statement that nature has had enough, and will reclaim the built environment whether we are ready for it or not. Moulded to emulate omulondo (ginseng), a medicinal root with multiple uses, but formed out of plastic, the sculpture is a hybrid new being suggesting that even when nature takes over it is forever changed by our pursuit of development at all costs.
